Another Word-dilemma, the Table of Contents

Once you let Word (2010, in my case) work for you, you'll rejoice over the simplicity of it all. Until you find something new that's annoying you to the brink of insanity. When I first inserted my Table of Contents (ToC) I had done everything according to instructions: I used the headings provided by Word, so I assumed it would be a piece of cake to add the ToC. It was nothing like a cake of any kind. There were 2 different fonts in the ToC and I tried to change them to the same font and font size manually, until I realized that Word does not work this way and I had to find an easier way. Once again I contacted the Word-expert at Åbo Akademi University, and she was once again helpful.

You simply choose your style when you insert the table the first time. Under "References" you find "Table of Contents" and then choose "Insert table of contents" and there you have the options to create a ToC of your choice.

Citing dissertations in Word

Trying to find out how to cite a dissertation in Word (2010) turned out to be a matter similar to finding anything small in a haystack. Fortunately I got in touch with the Word-expert at Åbo Akademi University, and she told me how to manage this dilemma. When you manage your sources, choose "Report" and then fill in the necessary information. Word will tell you to write the thesis after "Type", but this does not work. Instead, write thesis before the name of the city, and voilà you have your source ready.

Att ansluta en android telefon till Soneras nät

Köpte en HTC Desire HD denna vecka. Ändrade hastigt mitt abonnemang till ett med internet för liknande telefoner. Efter att ha läst och sökt på Soneras sidor kom jag ingenvart, men däremot fick jag hjälp via en Facebook-vän. Detta är instruktionerna som jag fick och som fungerade, det tog mindre än en minut att kopplas till nätet. :) Gå till Settings, Wireless & networks, Mobile networks, Access Point Names, tryck på menyknappen, välj new APN, och fyll i Name: Sonera Internet, APN "internet", tryck på menyknappen och Save. På detta enkla sätt är 3G nätet kopplat.

Artikeln fick mig att fundera på hur mycket jag kom ihåg från min gymnasietid och vad mina studerande månne tar med sig när de är dimitterade och redo för resten av sina liv. Gymnasiet borde vara ett första steg på vägen mot att börja reflektera över sin kunskap, sina val och sig själv. Ibland glöms det kanske bort att det här är en process som tar tid. Självfallet kan vi ändra på undervisningsmetoderna och försöka stimulera till höger och vänster, men det kan också hända att vi mognar i tanken mycket senare än vi tror. Således kan det vara svårt att uppnå en perfekt balans i kunskap. Trots allt tror jag att vi tar med oss väldigt mycket från alla utbildningsstadier, men det kan vara svårt att mäta det i ett nationellt prov.
